BUSINESS TIPS OF THE MONTH

Sales Tax Update
Yes… sales tax is increasing as of April 1st. Remember to change the rates in your QuickBooks items list so that you don’t get caught at the end of the month/quarter having to pay the difference (please contact me if you need help changing these rates.) The new state rate is 8.25% (.0825), the rate for Sonoma County is 9% (.09) and Santa Rosa and Sebastopol is 9.25% (.0925). If this isn’t enough to confuse us, you can check out the rates on the Board of Equalization website at: http://www.boe.ca.gov/news/pdf/l212b.pdf

For Internet sales… (Products)
Per the Board of Equalization—yes, I called to get clarification—the tax rate that is charged is the state rate: 8.25%. This means if you sell anything outside of Sonoma County, the sales tax rate is 8.25%. If sales are made within Sonoma County the rate is 9% and to anyone in Santa Rosa or Sebastopol it’s 9.25% or .0925. Any questions, please let me know….

ORGANIZATIONS—PERSONAL TIDBITS

Team In Training News
A couple weeks ago, we did a training ride in Marin. As we were gearing up and getting ready to go, a gentleman walked up to the group of us—nothing new really, we’ve had that happen before—but this was a little different. He was walking with a purpose, almost like he was ready to tell us to move out of the area, even though we were in a public parking area. And in the split second it took us to wonder, “who is THIS guy?”, he asked if we were all part of Team in Training. Cautiously, we all responded with “yes, we are”…

I’d like to introduce you to Lance Russell. Lance walked up to us to find out if we were part of Team in Training because twelve years ago he was diagnosed with Leukemia and told he had six months to live. This year, he will see is son graduate from high school and his daughter from college. Two special events he never thought he’d live to see. He had walked up to us with such purpose to say “thank you” for all the effort we put into this enterprise, and the fundraising we and others have done in the past that has contributed to the medication and treatments that saved his life.

We were dumbfounded and speechless (and for those who know ME—you know that’s quite an accomplishment!)

This chance meeting illustrated what we are working for: Lance is living proof that what we do—anyone who participates by fundraising, donating, riding, providing support and good wishes—DOES contribute to making the lives of those suffering from this ugly disease healthier and longer.

Lance was gracious enough to let us get a picture of him with the group of us:

Another big THANK YOU to those who have donated! I am still trying to achieve my goal of $2500 and will be gratefully welcoming donations until May 14th. My ride is June 7th. Please take a look at my Team in Training website, please click on http://pages.teamintraining.org/rw/ambbr09/jdavisa63u.
Please know that your donation helps people like Lance live longer and healthier lives!

GROWING MY BUSINESS

Do you know any small business that is still doing things manually? Are they writing checks by hand? By automating their bookkeeping system, errors can be reduced, if not eliminated. Looking up data and making comparisons is more convenient. And preparing data for your CPA is as easy and hitting a button. If you know of a business owner struggling with doing things “the old fashioned way,” please give them my name and tell them that there is an easier way. Reduce some stress and gain some time back for doing the things that are most important to you and your business.

VIRTUAL JEANNIE VIRTUAL SPOTLIGHT

This month’s spotlight is on Gutter Helmet of the North and East Bay. Dave Lundquist is a recent client of mine with a unique product… take a look.

HomePro 360, Inc. – Gutter Helmet of the North and East Bay

David P. Lundquist added Gutter Protection to his home improvement business in 2005. First, he was just trying to help his father-in-law look for work when he asked the magic question: “What do you like to do?” After being shown Gutter Helmet, David was convinced that it was a great product, “so we added this product to our offerings and I made my father-in-law sales manager.” The relationship has proved to be a win-win-win situation for HomePro, his father-in-law and the customers.

Gutter Helmet is the #1 gutter protection system in the world. It was the first product of its type over 25 years ago. Millions of systems have been installed—and for good reason. Gutters fill up with debris and clog up gutters. When it rains, the water backs up and causes all types of problems: roof leaks, dry rot, water damage, mold, etc. You must clean out the gutters regularly to prevent these types of problems, but the better solution is to install a gutter protection system to prevent the problem from occurring again. However, many have found that typical gutter screens do not work effectively over the long term. HomePro 360 recognized that this problem is solved with Gutter Helmets’ unique screen-less design. It is a design that uses surface friction to get the water in and keep the debris out.

HomePro 360, Inc. is focused on complete professionalism in serving homeowners. Their installations are 100% guaranteed never to clog for life. “We are equipped to install all types of seamless gutters too, with the very best attention to detail,” notes Dave. “We have them installed on over a thousand homes in the major Bay Area on every type of project. We have very happy customers and we stand behind our work 100%.”

HomePro believes their key to success is understanding they are there to solve a problem and being genuinely concerned with the customers’ needs. In 2006 they were awarded “Rookie of the Year” by Gibralter Industries and they have been given the award for the “Presidents Club” for outstanding business growth. All of this is a reflection of their commitment to great customer service.

You have to see Gutter Helmet in action to understand how it works. You can learn more by visiting www.homepro360.com or by calling their office and requesting more information or a free quote.
HomePro 360 Inc. is located at 3100 Dutton Ave., #144E, Santa Rosa CA 95407. Call 707 584-4700 or email dave@homepro360.com
